For a cheetah mother nowhere is it harder to raise cubs than in the Mara. Of Africa’s three big cats they already have the toughest job and infant mortality rates can be as high as 50%. Sadly in the Mara that figure can reach 80% as the battalion of vehicles so often seen, coupled with the fact that hyena, lion, leopard and sometimes even hyena can push cheetah off a kill makes their life tough. As a result it was great to see these three sub adults, with their mother, Kisaru, thriving on the boundary of the reserve and Mara north this year.
