A tender moment between a mother and her juvenile in Volcanoes NP, Rwanda. A mother is in near constant contact with her new born for the first 6 months and continues to nurse them for 2.5 to 3 years. As a result it can taken gorilla populations a long time to recover but the work being done by dedicated organisations like Virunga are going a long way to ensuring their protection for years to come.
